Noor Arora

hello art lovers

The artist is a formally trained industrial designer who graduated from Parsons School for Design New York in 2014. After graduating she decided to take time to pursue her passion: fine art.

Instinct and training however constantly drew her back to the world of digital prototyping noticing how much it differed from traditional practices. Since then she has ventured to create an ensemble deploying practices old and new.

For the stone art series, the story started some 40,000 years ago circa 38,000 BCE from when the earliest evidence of Parietal art (cave paintings) is believed to have been created. Man, then living a nomadic lifestyle, depicted their environment and the animals living in it by drawing them on cave walls.

Many millennia since then, the human race has advanced leaps and bounds. We now have tools that the prehistoric mind wasn’t developed enough to fathom! But for all these amazing advancements we have lost something just as important.

Extinction and climate change are both extremely slow natural phenomena but scientists estimate that we are now loosing species at a rate 10,000 times faster than is natural. While poaching and encroachment of natural habitats is a factor, the biggest threat, a threat even to us, is global warming (a human influenced heating of the globe) with the average global temperature increasing by 1.4 degrees Celsius is just the last couple of decades!

In this series of her work the artist wishes to create awareness of some that we have lost and what we have left in the hopes to preserve it. She meticulously etches her drawings onto thin sheets of slate and then set them ablaze, leaving ash residue on the surface of the works.
